Seventh Annual Finale Concert, Old Museum Building 7pm
Queensland Law Orchestra (‘Lawchestra’) was proud to present its seventh annual finale concert at The Old Museum's Concert Hall under conductor Greta Hunter.
The Lawchestra performed Bassoon Concerto in F Major (Mvt II). with soloist Rory Brown, and in the spirit of Christmas, Ballard & Silvestri’s Concert Suite from The Polar Express Express, movements from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Coleridge-Taylor’s Christmas Overture from The Forest of Wild Thyme. The Lawchestra celebrated the Viennese tradition of the Strauss family’s On the Beautiful Blue Danube and Radetzky March, and performed much more.
A portion of ticket sales was donated to the Minds Count Foundation, an independent, volunteer-run charitable organisation. The Foundation aims to decrease work-related psychological ill-health in the legal community and promote workplace psychological health and safety.

Brisbane City Council’s Bands in Parks: In the Spirit of Adventure
The Lawchestra had the wonderful opportunity to perform in the grand auditorium of Brisbane City Hall, with adventurous pieces including Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance Overture, as well as themes from Powell’s How to Train your Dragon and Zimmer’s Pirates of the Carribean.
Lawchestra’s string section also filled the halls with Sibelius’ beautiful Andante Festivo.

Brisbane City Council’s Bands in Parks: Classics in the Botanics
Lawchestra performed a variety of classical favourites at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens’ Bandstands, including Elgar’s Salut D’Amour, an arrangement of Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets Suite, the First Mvt of Beethoven’s 5th and many more.
The performance on Mother’s Day was met with sunshine and a lovely crowd spanning the field, despite the rainy weather that day.

Finale Concert 2024 - Lawchestra and Crown Law Choir
Old Museum Building, Concert Hall
For our sixth annual Finale Concert, the Lawchestra performed many spectacular pieces including Stravinsky’s Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird Suite, Sullivan’s H.M.S Pinafore Overture, themes from Rodgers and Hammestein’s Sound of Music and many more.
A highlight for the Lawchestra was performing Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides Overture (‘Fingal’s Cave’), both a challenging and beautiful piece.
Crown Law Choir performed in the first half of the concert, singing many beautiful tunes and hymns including Edelweiss, We Three Kings and Go Tell It On the Mountain.

Lawchestra performs Antonín Dvořák’s American Suite, Leroy Anderson’s The Typewriter and Émile Waldteufe’s The Skaters’ Waltz (Les Patineurs) , and more on a lovely, sunny afternoon at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens’ Bandstands.

Bands in Parks: Fantasy, Folklore and Frontier

What a busy year for the Lawchestra! The Lawchestra journeyed through the fantastical world of Oz by playing Stephen Schwartz’s Highlights from Wicked, graced through Scandinavia through Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite performing Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King and traversed through America’s heartland with Copland’s Variations on a Shaker Melody.

Lawchestra & Queensland Medical Orchestra: Americana in Concert

In a spectacular start to the year, the Lawchestra performed in a joint concert with the Queensland Medical Orchestra (QMO), an event with an audience of over 700 people. Musicians of the legal profession and medical profession combined to promote mental wellbeing, where proceeds of the concert was donated to the charity Letters of Hope.
Both orchestras performed individually, and then combined forces to form one large orchestra with all musicians. QMO’s conductor Dr Ryan Williams led the joint orchestra in performing Stephen Schwartz’s Highlights from Wicked, whilst the Lawchestra’s conductor, Greta Hunter led the joint orchestra and closed the concert with Mvt IV Finale from Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor ‘New World Symphony’.
